The University of Mali was founded in 1993. After the establishment of democracy after the fall of the regime of Moussa Traoré in 1992, which students have participated extensively, a reform of higher education is in place. Politicians rely on the existing network of Colleges and reflects the experiences of neighboring countries. Its main tasks were:

  •   Higher education and vocational

  •   The research and the promotion of scientific and technological research

  • The dissemination of knowledge and culture


The University of Mali became effective in November 1996. In 2002, an order becomes the University of Mali, which becomes University of Bamako, a public scientific Locations, technological and cultural missions responsible for higher education in its various aspects and participates in scientific research, technical and technological.


It includes:

  • 4 faculties

Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST)
Faculty of Humanities, Languages​​, Arts and Humanities (FLASH)
Faculty of Law and Economics (FJESS)
Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry (FMPOS)


three institutes:
Institute of Management (GUI)
Higher Institute for Training and Applied Research (ISFRA)
Institut Polytechnique Rural (IPR)


  • 2 high schools:

National Engineering School (ENI)
Ecole Normale Superieure (ENSup)

Since its founding ambition is to be a regional center of competence for development. It thus appears as a factor important to African integration.
